AT&T Announces $410,000 in Technology Grants in Florida. Broward County Grants Help Build Stronger Communities
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The AT&T Foundation -- the corporate philanthropy organization of AT&T Inc. -- today announced that it has awarded $410,000 in competitive AT&T Excelerator technology grants to 26 nonprofit organizations across Florida.
The AT&T Excelerator program provides technology access to organizations working to strengthen underserved communities. Helping nonprofits integrate technology into their operations and community outreach, AT&T Excelerator grants also place technology tools in the hands of the underserved populations that the nonprofits work with in order to provide resources such as education programs, Internet access, computer training and job-skills development.
Since its inception in 2002, the AT&T Excelerator competitive technology grant program has provided more than 2,500 technology grants -- totaling more than $47.8 million -- to deserving organizations across the country.
Below are examples of 2007 grant recipients and their projects: -- Women in Distress of Broward County (Fort Lauderdale) will use the grant to support the creation of an enhanced Web site that will support WID's outreach to promote social change. It will include a calendar of events, information on prevention and help and a blog for victims to communicate and seek help. For more information contact: Andrea Bradley (954) 760-9800. -- Broward Regional Health Planning Council Inc. (Fort Lauderdale) will use funds to support an upgrade of the network to enhance management of Healthy Families Broward. Staff will visit the homes of underserved families to promote child health and positive parenting. Remote access to the network is needed for management of the program. For more information contact: Michael DeLucca (954) 561-9681. -- Spady Cultural Heritage Inc. (Delray Beach) will use the money to support a technology upgrade of software and hardware at the Spady Museum to better manage its collection, membership and donor records. The museum is preserving and educating the community about African-American cultural history. For more information contact: Daisy Fulton (561) 279-8883.
"By integrating technology into the nonprofit sector these technology grants will greatly expand the effectiveness of nonprofits, which are on the front lines addressing the needs of our most deserving Floridians," said Marshall Criser III, president, AT&T Florida.
2007 AT&T Excelerator grants will help nonprofit organizations across the U.S. improve their operations and build stronger communities through:
-- Internet Access -- networked, high speed access to the Internet and e-mail. -- Data Networking -- network connectivity that enables easy sharing of database applications and information systems. -- Online Outreach -- interactive, Web-based applications that support activities such as service delivery, volunteer recruiting and e-fundraising. -- Staff Technology Capacity -- technology-training programs for nonprofit staff members. -- Pooled Technology Resources -- programs that work to address the technology needs of multiple nonprofits.
