The Hartford Names Richard Costello Senior Vice President Of Investor Relations

The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: HIG) today announced that Richard Costello, 40, has been named senior vice president of investor relations. In this role, Costello will lead The Hartford’s investor relations function and report directly to Lizabeth Zlatkus, the company’s chief financial officer. Costello succeeds Kimberly Johnson, who remains with the company as senior vice president, corporate finance reporting to Zlatkus.

"Kim has done an outstanding job in leading investor relations for The Hartford over the past four years. I am pleased to be able to now leverage her unique talents in a variety of financial planning initiatives,” said Zlatkus. "I am excited that we were able to find such a qualified internal candidate in Rick. His extensive knowledge of The Hartford’s operations will provide for a seamless transition and I am confident he will continue the company’s tradition of investor relations excellence.”

Before joining the investor relations department in January 2008, Costello served as the company’s corporate secretary and assistant general counsel, positions he assumed in 2004. In these roles, he oversaw the company’s Securities and Exchange Commission filings and the mergers and acquisitions law group, among other functions. He joined the company in 2003 as assistant vice president and senior counsel for the company. Previously, he was a senior partner at Wilmer Hale, LLP in Boston when it was known as Hale and Dorr, LLP.

He earned his B.A. in economics from the University of California at Berkeley and earned his J.D. from the University of California’s Hastings College of the Law. A resident of Simsbury, Conn., Costello is a member of the Board of Governing Directors of The Hartford Stage and is a member of the bar in California, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
