ChaCha Voted Best Consumer Mobile Application
Indianapolis-based ChaCha® recently won the AT&T Fast-Pitch Platinum Award for best
consumer mobile application at the CTIA Wireless Association Convention
in Las Vegas.
This prestigious award follows the April 1 announcement of ChaCha’s
new free 1-800-2ChaCha™ (1-800-224-2242)
mobile answers service that allows cell phone users to ask any question
in conversational English while on the go and receive the answer as a
text message within minutes. Unlike other highly touted mobile search
solutions that only work on a fraction of phones, ChaCha’s
unique service works on all mobile
phones.
In addition to receiving a cash reward, ChaCha’s
mobile answers service will be featured by AT&T as a hot new wireless
product to its 70 million wireless customers.
ChaCha impressed the judges and audience alike with its ability to
deliver accurate answers in a timely manner to any
mobile device, ranging from simple phones –
which account for 82 percent of all cell phones –
to advanced smart phones. What really made the service stand out was the
friendly, fun personality that came across in the answers from ChaCha’s
human guides to questions such as:
Who were the original members of The Rat Pack?
Where is the cheapest gas in downtown Philadelphia?
How fast does a camel run?
The competition included hundreds of applicants from around the world,
of which 66 of the most innovative wireless companies were invited to
present their mobile applications to a panel of judges, including
leaders from AT&T, industry experts, and venture capitalists, in a
five-minute "fast-pitch”
format.
"Being selected by America’s
largest mobile carrier – at the world’s
largest wireless show – is an honor as it
validates the unique capabilities provided by ChaCha,”
says Scott A. Jones, co-founder and CEO of ChaCha. "Our
rapidly growing base of repeat customers proves that ChaCha’s
mobile answers service is a true breakthrough. We are thrilled about the
opportunity to make ChaCha’s mobile answers
service available to all of AT&T’s
customers.”
The Fast-Pitch program is considered by many to be the wireless industry’s
equivalent of American Idol, with emerging mobile technology
companies presenting their wireless applications directly to AT&T’s
decision makers. Companies were judged based on the following criteria:
1. Originality / Innovation
2. Market appeal
3. Ease of use
4. Number of devices and platforms supported
5. Ease of integration
"ChaCha’s
innovative mobile answers service brings an entirely new dimension to
the mobile search experience,” says Deanna
Garcia, director, AT&T’s wireless unit’s
consumer developer program. "It’s
like having a personal research assistant answer your questions about
almost anything from anywhere at anytime. We think this has great
potential to be an attractive application to the 70 million customers we
serve.”
This latest highly coveted honor comes on the heels of ChaCha receiving
a string of leading industry awards. After its Text option had been
deployed only two months, ChaCha took top prize at the recent "My
Search is Better than Your Search” shoot-out
competition held at the Search Engine Strategies conference in New York
City. ChaCha was selected for its service’s
technical efficiency, relevance and practical functionality
ChaCha was also ranked as the "No. 1
Alternative Search Engine” in February —
beating out hundreds of companies — by
Charles Knight of the blogging network, ReadWriteWeb.
In March, out of 70 promising start-ups presenting at Dow Jones’ "Web Ventures,”
ChaCha was selected as a "Top Ten”
company by VentureWire’s judges.
