Atlanta Area Boy Scouts Receive $350,000 AT&T Grant to Build a State-of-the-Art Learning and Meeting Center

ATLANTA, Aug. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. has announced a $350,000 grant to the Boy Scouts of America -- Atlanta Area Council to assist in the renovation of facilities at the Bert Adams Scout Reservation. The new multipurpose facility, located in Newton County, will feature a large, new learning center and meeting space, and communications capabilities and computer training stations will be in smaller meeting rooms. In addition, the facility will undergo structural improvements during the renovation.

The grant, which was awarded by the AT&T Foundation -- the corporate philanthropy organization of AT&T Inc. -- is a three-year commitment. The first installment of $120,000 was presented today at a council meeting by AT&T executives. This year, the reservation will host 70,000 camper nights, and that number is expected to increase in the coming year.

"This facility holds a special place in the hearts of thousands of Atlanta-area Boy Scouts who have spent many nights at the Bert Adams Scout Reservation," said Sylvia Anderson, president of AT&T Georgia. "It is special for AT&T to be part of a project that will help preserve, yet modernize, the reservation so that future scouts will share in the history and have lifetime memories of this location."

"I am honored to serve on the board of directors of this fine organization," said Georgia state Rep. Earl Ehrhart, District 36. "The Boy Scouts provide a key role in developing the leadership of young men and boys in Georgia and across the nation. I applaud AT&T's contribution today and the company's ongoing commitment to our youth."

The Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America serves a 13-county area and is currently conducting a capital campaign to fund further additions and renovations at the Bert Adams Scout Reservation, including the addition of a swimming pool and dining hall for Cub World.
