McDonald's May Global Comps. Rise 0.9% - Quick Facts
(RTTNews) - McDonald's Corp. (MCD) reported that its global comparable sales increased by 0.9% in May.
Segment-wise, May comparable sales in U.S. were down by 1.0% amidst ongoing broad-based challenges, while it was up 0.4% in Europe, led by positive performance in the U.K. and France, partly offset by negative results in Germany. Unique affordability options, premium menu choices and expansion of the unit's beverage business supported the monthly results.
Performance in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa or APMEA grew by 2.5%, reflecting strong results in China, including comparison against last year impact of Avian influenza, and positive performance across several markets, partially offset by ongoing weakness in Japan. Across the division, APMEA is focused on strengthening its value platforms, breakfast daypart and convenience.
Systemwide sales for the recent month advanced by 2.4%, or 3.4% in constant currencies.
