George Awad Joins Citigroup as Chief Executive Officer of Global Consumer Group, Europe, Middle East and Africa
"With more than 20 years of consumer product and financialservices experience in Europe, Asia and the U.S., including 18 yearswith General Electric, George has the right combination of talent andexpertise to help us pursue our ambitious strategies and successfullyrealize our growth objectives in EMEA," said Mr. Banga. "He has provenexperience in building customer-focused businesses and spearheadingsuccessful and highly profitable global expansion efforts, as well asrunning and growing businesses in Western Europe."

In his most recent role, Mr. Awad helped lead GE Money todouble-digit organic growth for seven straight years and drive netincome growth from $700 million in 2000 to over $3 billion in 2005. Hemanaged an expansion effort that led to the addition of more than2,000 branches, oversaw the introduction of hundreds of new products,and was the architect for the launch of the GE Money brand in 36countries. His previous positions at General Electric included generalmanagement, business development and sales roles throughout the U.S.,China, France, Japan, Singapore and the UK.
Mr. Awad holds a BS in civil engineering from the AmericanUniversity of Beirut and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh,Katz Graduate School of Business.
