Diamondbacks' Home is Now Chase Field

Answering a question on the mind of Arizonans for more than 20months, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Bank One today announced that thehome of the Arizona Diamondbacks will be renamed Chase Field.

The change is a result of the merger between JPMorgan Chase & Co.(NYSE:JPM) and Bank One, which was announced Jan. 14, 2004.

"The number one question from our customers and even our employeeshas been 'What about BOB?'" said Ben Campbell, Arizona president ofBank One, which becomes Chase in December. "I'm excited to finallyprovide an answer."

"The new name is great," said Rich Dozer, president of the ArizonaDiamondbacks. "Its simplicity helps us maintain the spirit of classicAmerican baseball in one of the most advanced, convenient andfan-friendly baseball stadiums in the country."

Joe Gionta, head of the Chase Consumer Bank for the Southwest,said that keeping the secret has been hard: "A few of us have beenreferring to BOB as Chase Field internally as we planned for theunveiling. Fortunately, it remained under wraps until today."

The Chase Field logo features the Diamondbacks' signature colorsof purple, copper and teal and combines a traditional baseball lookwith the unique architectural features of the building. The new logowas designed by Bradley and Montgomery (www.bamads.com) withconsultation from team and bank representatives.

The name of Chase Field ends the only mystery associated with themerger.

"Our customers will have the same account numbers and same team ofdedicated bankers working in all the same branches," said Gionta. "Andwe continue to expand our ATM and branch network as Arizona's mostconvenient bank."

Chase Field will debut tonight, as the Diamondbacks face the SanDiego Padres at 6:40 p.m. in the last home series of the season.Almost 10,000 Chase and Bank One employees and their families willattend tonight's game, which has been officially designated ChaseEmployee Night.

During the game, fans will be treated to giveaways and specialfeatures, including the first 15,000 in attendance receivingDiamondbacks rally towels, courtesy of Chase. Ed Butler from Gilbert,AZ, will remember the night for a long time, after the chance to win$50,000 by pitching a strike through the Chase octagon, an element ofthe new logo.

Changing all the signs to Chase Field will take months of planningand implementation. About 100 signs appear inside and outside thebuilding, including the north-facing, three-dimensional sign thatmeasures 30 by 150 feet. The finishing touches are expected just intime for Opening Day in March 2006, when more than 2.5 million ticketsand the uniforms of all ballpark staff, including concession workers,will sport the new Chase Field name and logo.

In December, the 200 bank branches in Arizona will shift to theChase name, and Arizona's tallest building will become Chase Tower.The bank continues to expand its convenience, growing by more than 20branches a year in the state. By the end of this year, the bank alsowill have ATMs in more than 200 Walgreens stores around the state.
