Unisys Launches Open Platform for Generating Personalized Communicatio
Business Editors/High-Tech Editors
CANNES, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 2005--In a communications industry that is increasingly focused on enhancing the subscriber experience, Unisys (NYSE:UIS) today launched an open communications platform to help service providers drive value from revenue-generating personalized services. The new platform, Ensemble OXP, is a fully open, multi-service foundation that provides greater flexibility to service providers who want to bundle next-generation subscriber services for various market segments while reducing total cost of ownership.
Unisys Communications Ensemble OXP integrates new revenue-generating services into the carrier's infrastructure, enabling elimination of service silos, faster time-to-market and reductions in service delivery costs. Unisys offers the entire Communications Ensemble portfolio in conjunction with Unisys systems integration capabilities, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), third-party solution alliances, managed services, outsourcing and consulting services, including its 3D Visible Enterprise methodology.
"Communications companies want to maximize revenue and profitability and manage their service provisioning costs while differentiating themselves in a crowded market," said Glenn James, president, Unisys Global Communications & Media practice. "Our Communications Ensemble family gives clients such as France Telecom, Telefonica Moviles Mexico and Vodafone the platform, next-generation services and speed-to-revenue capabilities that are imperative in a rapidly changing market."
Unisys is working closely with the France Telecom Group to develop and deliver next-generation services to its subscribers. The two companies are in the process of implementing voice-activated voicemail services for easier navigation of mobile applications.
"We are very dedicated to providing voice interface navigation because our users will have easier access to new services," said Rich Miner, vice president of Advanced Service Development at Orange. "Unisys has been an extremely valued partner of ours in deploying and integrating this key technology, and we are pleased that we have already exceeded our business plan in terms of subscriber interest and adoption of those services. Unisys scaled the innovative technology to our needs and executed at an extremely rapid pace. The communication services that we're delivering with Unisys are absolutely the best in class."
Carriers and operators can offer a wide range of revenue-generating, IP-based messaging services on a cost-effective basis with Ensemble OXP, including:
-- | Multimedia -- visual voicemail, video call answer, video content services, speech services, and content delivery; |
-- | Notification -- through a variety of channels including multimedia messaging (MMS), short message service (SMS), instant messaging (IM) and e-mail; |
-- | Unified Communications -- access to messages from multiple channels -- Web, fixed line, wireless and other sources -- with a single interface; |
-- | Network Interactive Voice Response (IVR) -- speech-enabled access to content and information via natural speech-based voice interface; and |
-- | Call Management Services-- personalization of when and how subscribers communicate using the capabilities of presence and location service solutions. |
More specifically, Ensemble OXP includes:
-- VXML-based Unified Communications application
(voice/fax/e-mail)
-- Open, unified message store
-- Open, unified directory server
-- Open, unified notification server
-- Standard-based media server
-- Commodity-application server platform
-- Open Services Platform (OSP) integration environment
As part of the development of Ensemble OXP applications, Unisys is working with key third-party solution providers. Unisys and Data Connection Limited (DCL) have established an OEM relationship whereby Unisys will integrate DCL's MailNGen solution for voicemail and unified messaging services based on the Ensemble OXP architecture. This alliance will allow Unisys to provide a messaging platform for next-generation IP-based networks as well as legacy telephony environments.
In addition to its work with Orange, Unisys has deployed various components of the Communications Ensemble solution portfolio for Vodafone Australia and Telefonica Moviles Mexico. Communications Ensemble is based on Unisys 3D Visible Enterprise (3D-VE) methodology, which allows clients to determine the impact, on all levels of the organization, of deploying new enhanced services. 3D-VE provides visibility across all aspects of the carrier's operations, including marketing, product management, network engineering and operations, and back office functions.
