Tesla Rival Faraday On Display At CES

(RTTNews) - Tesla Motor, Inc.'s (TSLA) rival Faraday Future has unveiled its electric car concept platform, the FFZERO1 concept, at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The FFZERO1 concept vehicle has futuristic features like a smartphone-integrated steering wheel and a cockpit-like layout for the driver. It has a style similar to the Batmobile.

The powertrain will feature four Quad Core motors with over 1,000 horsepower, with the ability to deliver a top speed of more than 200 miles per hour and a 0 to 60 mph time of less than three seconds.

The interior will feature an intuitive user interface for integration between virtual and head-up displays as well as a smartphone-connected remote vehicle setup.

The exterior features carbon fiber and lightweight composite construction as well as aero tunnels that allows for minimal drag and higher performance racing suspension.

Faraday Future's prototype is meant to highlight a modular design approach called Variable Platform Architecture or VPA, that allows several other types of electric vehicles to be built atop the same chassis with minimum modifications.

The company also unveiled a new battery-pack design that utilizes a multi-cell solution where both individual cells and groups of cells can be replaced. It will have a modular design for improved mass-production methods.

Faraday Future, backed by Chinese Internet TV provider LeTV, has been operating from Los Angeles and its employee base has grown to 550, with many of them former employees at tech giants like Tesla, BMW and Apple.

In December, the company announced its plan to set up a $1 billion manufacturing plant in north Las Vegas.
