Tesla Now Open For Business In Australia

(RTTNews) - Tesla Motors is now officially selling cars in Australia following the opening of its first dealership in Sydney. Currently the four-door Model S sedan is the only Tesla vehicle available in the Aussie market, which will expand into Melbourne next year.

To support the move in Australia Telsa also unveiled its first two electric charging stations in the country. One is located at their new Sydney dealership with the other housed as the Star casino at Darling Harbour. The stations can charge the car's battery completely in one hour with a half-charge taking about 20 minutes.

The Model S is priced at $117,000 in Australia for a base model, with added battery life and autonomous steering options pushing the price tag over $200,000, according to the UK's Guardian. The California-based company is, however, planning to launch the new budget model M III in Australia in the future, bringing the price down to roughly $60,000:

"That means the removal of the luxury car tax, which starts to make the price point a very appealing proposition for the masses," Tesla's Australian spokesman Heath Walker tell The Guardian.
