Sprint Recognized By CIO Magazine as One of the CIO 100 Award Honorees

IDG's CIO magazine announced Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S) as a recipient of the 2008 CIO 100. The 21st annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology. Sprint was recognized for its innovative storage and virtualization project called 4S - Simplicity, Speed, Standards and Stability. The 4S project is a server and storage farm that streamlines the deployment of new test and development environments. Sprint can now deploy a three-tier server environment (consisting of three servers representing a database system, applications and Web environments, along with terabytes of storage) within 15 minutes. Through this project, Sprint has been able to reduce equipment and software licensing costs in half. "Sprint is pleased to be recognized for its 4S project by CIO magazine,” said Josh Morton, vice president of IT Operations for Sprint. "4S significantly speeds up the deployment of applications and environments into production while also creating an automated process that can be applied to other areas of the business.” "The CIO 100 honors organizations that have used technology in innovative ways to generate value to the business," said Abbie Lundberg, Editor in Chief of CIO magazine. "Unlike other top lists, it’s not just about who’s biggest—it’s about who’s doing the most interesting and relevant things." The 2008 CIO 100 awards will be presented at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on August 26 at the conclusion of the tenth annual CIO 100 Symposium® and Awards Ceremony. About the CIO 100 The recipients of this year's CIO 100 award were selected through a three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form detailing their innovative practices in both business and IT. Next, a team of judges reviewed the applications in depth, looking for unique practices and substantial results. Finally, CIO editors reviewed the judges’ recommendations and voted on the final 100. Once the top 100 honorees were selected, several honorees were chosen to receive an additional special award. Complete coverage of the 2008 CIO 100 awards will be in the August 15 issue of CIO magazine and available online at www.cio.com on June 1.
