Sales Via Smartphones Doubled, Black Friday Online Sales Touches $2.4 Bln

(RTTNews) - Adobe Systems Inc.(ADBE) in its Digital Index Online Shopping data for the holiday season said there were 14 percent year over year growth in online spent during November 1 - 28 period. Total spent was $32 billion. Online sales for the Thanksgiving day was $1.33 billion while on Black Friday it reached $2.4 billion. Online sales conversions also improved, as 3.2 percent of visits resulted in a completed shopping cart, up from 3.14 percent last year.

As expected, there was a surge in digital sales using Smartphones. The company said the sales using Smartphones doubled from 7% to 13%, however sales were almost flat on Tablet at 16%. On Thanksgiving Day, 29 percent of sales came from mobile devices, up from 21 percent in the previous year. Mobile devices drove 27 percent of sales on Black Friday, up 3% from last year.

Single's Day sales on November 11 touched a record of $1.29 billion. Adobe expects Cyber Monday sales to surpass this figure. The average order value was $149 on Thanksgiving Day, and $142 on Black Friday. The number of people choosing to order online and pickup in-store rose to 45 percent above normal on Thanksgiving Day. Facebook led in social network sales with average order value of $114.45. Pinterest came in second with $93.20, and Twitter drove online sales of $90.74 on average. Adobe Digital Index is based on census-based online sales totals, pricing and product availability trends as well as other retail data. Tamara Gaffney, principal analyst, Adobe Digital Index said, "Consumer use of larger screen smartphones helped drive significant increases in mobile online sales - enough to set records two days in a row," said "This year's Thanksgiving holiday results demonstrated the power of big data to build predictive models. From average discounts to mobile share and overall sales numbers, Adobe hit the mark for the third year in a row."
