Eli Lilly and Company to Receive Honor from National Urban League

INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Eli Lilly and Company has been selected to receive the National Urban League's Corporate Leadership Award for its efforts to reach diverse communities with relevant healthcare information. The corporate leadership award is the highest honor given to a corporation by one of the nation's leading civil rights and direct services organization.

Sidney Taurel, chairman and chief executive officer, will accept the award today, presented by the National Urban League (NUL), during the 51st Annual Equal Opportunity Day Awards Dinner at the New York Marriott Marquis.

"Lilly is extremely honored to receive this year's Corporate Leadership Award," said Taurel. "We support the NUL's mission to enable African Americans to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights through education and empowerment. Lilly is dedicated to improving lives by providing healthcare tools and resources to empower diverse communities to lead healthier lives."

Lilly is receiving the Corporate Leadership Award for its valued partnership with the NUL on projects addressing health disparities, disease awareness and prevention and encouraging dialogue on mental health issues. This year, Lilly and the NUL brought forward the "Remarkable: That's You" campaign. The program encourages African American women and their families to adopt healthy behaviors. Workshops promoted being physically active, eating a nutritious diet, and seeking preventative screenings and treatment options.

"We are pleased to present Lilly with the Corporate Leadership Award for their comprehensive commitment to educating and empowering African American women," said NUL President and CEO Marc H. Morial. "Lilly's incredible partnership with the NUL to create "Remarkable, That's You," a campaign dedicated to encouraging women to take personal inventory and control of their health, has been instrumental in improving lives."
