David Joyce Named President and CEO of GE Aviation

General Electric Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt announced today the appointment of David Joyce as president and CEO of GE Aviation, a leading maker of jet engines and integrated digital, electric power and mechanical systems for aircraft. Joyce, 51, has been vice president of commercial engines for GE Aviation since 2003 and has been responsible for all commercial jet engine products and global support. He is a 28-year veteran of GE’s aviation business. "David is one of the best aviation minds in the world,” Immelt said. "He knows the technology, he knows the people and issues in the industry and he knows what customers need. David has broad experience across the business, from engineering and product design to customer service, giving him keen insight into how to continue Aviation’s global growth.” In a previous role as general manager of the small commercial engine operation, Joyce led GE’s successful bid to power China’s ARJ21 regional jet. In addition, he oversaw the certification program for the CF34-8 engine for the Bombardier CRJ900 and the Embraer E170/175 aircraft programs. Joyce joined GE in 1980 as a product engineer and spent 15 years in design and development of GE’s commercial and military engines. He also held positions in customer and product support and in quality as a Six Sigma Black Belt. He earned both bachelor’s of science and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University and holds a master’s in business finance from Xavier University. Joyce succeeds Scott C. Donnelly, who has taken a position with Textron. Donnelly has held the top job at GE Aviation since July 2005. Previously, he was senior vice president and director of GE Global Research. He joined GE in 1989. "Scott has been a terrific GE leader at Aviation and before that as the head of our global research labs," Immelt said.
