BMW Kills Rumors Of Working On Apple Car
(RTTNews) - German auto giant BMW has refuted reports it is in discussion with tech giant Apple Inc. (AAPL) related to the making of an electric car.
BMW has clarified that its discussion with Apple was not related to building an electric car but were "regular talks," according to a report from Reuters.
On March 4, German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, citing a "high ranking BMW manager," said that Apple was impressed with BMW's carbon-fiber electric cars and the two companies were in discussion to develop a new passenger electric car.
However, Reuters quoting a BMW spokesman as saying, "We are in regular talks with companies from the IT and telecommunications sector, including Apple, concerning topics like connected vehicles. Developing or building a car is not a topic of these discussions."
Motor und Sport had also reported that the new car to be developed will be sold in Apple outlets and serviced by BMW dealers.
The most recent rumors about Apple has been that the Cupertino, California-based tech company is working on self-driving electric car that could be launched by 2020. Multiple reports and rumors have surface in the past two months.
