Apple Pay Usage Picking Up On Web
(RTTNews) - Several websites are beginning to launch support for Apple Pay on the web following the release of iOS 10 this week. This will enable users to make payments for their purchases from websites and away from apps as well as point-of-sale terminals.
Some individual companies like Time Inc. and home decoration site Wayfair have already announced support for the platform.
Time said that customers can use Apple Pay to purchase subscriptions for its magazines, including Entertainment Weekly, People, and Sports Illustrated. Wayfair said it is giving shoppers an option to buy furniture and home décor products through Apple Pay.
Backend payment services including Shopify, Big Commerce, and Stripe have also separately announced Apple Pay compatibility. This will enable smaller retailers to accept Apple Pay payments for purchases.
Apple Pay enables users to make purchases with a single touch, while no credit card details are required to be entered. However, using Apple Pay on the Web currently requires at least an iPhone 6, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, or iPad mini 3.
The technology will also work with macOS Sierra, which launches on Tuesday, September 20. However, users will have to authenticate those transactions with a separate iPhone or Apple Watch.
