Unisys Wins $179 Million Contract to Provide Medicaid Services for State of Maine
The State of Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has
awarded Unisys (NYSE:UIS) a $179 million, seven-year, firm-fixed-price
contract to provide a new Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS)
to manage Maine’s current and future Medicaid
program.
On behalf of the state, Unisys will design, develop, implement and
operate the MMIS and assist the state with its technical expertise in
managing the Medicaid program, known as MaineCare. Unisys will assume
responsibility for many claims and customer service functions and
provide systems to help administer healthcare management. In addition,
Unisys will also provide hardware and software hosting, information
management and data warehousing. It will also provide a connection to
Maine’s eligibility system.
Designed to meet Maine’s current program
needs, the new MMIS will also allow for flexibility and the ability to
adjust to any redesign within the MaineCare program as needed or
required by federal law.
The award builds on recent Unisys success winning contracts to support
state Medicaid programs, including a contract award in December 2007 to
provide systems and services for Idaho’s
Medicaid program. Unisys also provides Medicaid systems and services to
the states of Louisiana, New Jersey and West Virginia.
Unisys will provide its flexible Health PAS solution, a multi-payer
healthcare administration system and federally certified MMIS solution
comprised of leading commercial software applications customized and
fully integrated to form a comprehensive health information management
solution. Health PAS is designed to enable Maine DHHS to efficiently
accommodate program and policy changes, meet new federal Medicaid reform
standards and enhance service to Medicaid recipients while helping to
control costs.
Unisys will deliver a proven solution responsive to the state’s
vision of an innovative MMIS by including features such as a web browser
user interface; modeling capability to help the state evaluate the
impact of policy and benefit changes and compare them to existing
programs; managed care functionality; and primary care case management
models.
"We look forward to working with Unisys to
implement a proven and successful innovative system and fiscal agent
services to support the management and evolution of MaineCare,”
said Brenda Harvey, Commissioner, State of Maine DHHS. "This
new MMIS will serve as our platform for attaining the State’s
vision for healthcare excellence.” "We are pleased Maine is now among the
growing number of states that have selected Unisys to help them
effectively manage their Medicaid programs with solutions that promote
rapid policy implementation and informed decision making,”
said Greg Baroni, president, Unisys Federal Systems. "Unisys
is excited about this opportunity to assist Maine’s
efforts to integrate systems, operations and healthcare management
processes into one solution to operate the MaineCare program.” About Unisys

are forward-looking statements as defined in the Private Securities
Litigation Reform Act of 1995. All forward-looking statements rely on
assumptions and are subject to various risks and uncertainties that
could cause actual results to differ materially from expectations. In
particular, statements in this release regarding the total value of this
award are based on the assumption that the contract will continue for
its full seven year term. Because agreements with government agencies
are terminable before the end of their terms and are subject to the
availability of appropriated funds, there is no guarantee that the
contract will continue for its full term. Additional discussion of
factors that could affect Unisys future results is contained in periodic
filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
