Unisys Helps TravelSky Gear Up for the 2008 Olympics with Major Computer System Upgrade
Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) today announced that its subsidiary,
Unisys China Limited, has signed a contract to upgrade computer systems
for TravelSky Technology Limited, the sole domestic provider of
information technology solutions for China’s
air travel and tourism industry.
The upgraded system is designed to provide TravelSky with the
intensified processing capacity and information availability needed to
handle an expected surge of travelers throughout the 2008 Olympic Games
in Beijing. According to travel trade estimates, approximately 300,000
overseas and more than two million domestic travelers will visit Beijing
during the period of the 2008 Olympic Games.
Under the agreement, Unisys will provide a system upgrade based on
Unisys Extended Transaction Capacity (XTC) capability. The XTC
capability will enable a new Unisys ClearPath Dorado Model 380 mainframe
system to be easily clustered with TravelSky’s
two existing Dorado Model 280 mainframes. As a result, TravelSky’s
system will be able to process many more transactions per second than a
one-host system.
TravelSky’s adoption of this advanced
clustering technology enables its systems to process a higher number of
transactions – such as reservations and load
calculations critical to flight safety – more
quickly and securely. TravelSky anticipates that the implementation of
the XTC system will not only make it one of the most reliable travel
systems in the world, it will also enable them to satisfy the ever
increasing growth of China aviation market, eventually becoming one of
the biggest players in this space.
"Through cooperation with Unisys on this
project, we expect that our system’s
production capacity will help reach new levels of performance and be
better equipped to handle the traffic peak at the 2008 Olympics,”
said Mr. Xu Qiang, president of TravelSky.
"TravelSky is a longstanding Unisys client,
and we are committed to providing solutions to help achieve its business
vision,” said Andrew Whittaker, vice
president and general manager of Global Commercial Industries, Asia
Pacific, Unisys. "The 2008 Olympic Games are
undoubtedly one of the most important international events to come to
China. Unisys is most honored to have the opportunity to use our
solutions and technology expertise to assist TravelSky in supporting the
Games.”
