State Street Recognized as 'Best Place to Work' for Third Consecutive Year by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation
State Street Corporation, the world’s leading provider of financial services to institutional investors, today announced that it has earned the top rating of 100 percent for the third consecutive year in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2009 Corporate Equality Index and Best Places to Work Survey. The Corporate Equality Index rates employers annually on a scale from 0 to 100 percent on their treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) employees, consumers and investors.
"As a global company with a diverse workforce, State Street is thrilled to again achieve top rankings in the 2009 Corporate Equality Index and Best Places to Work Survey,” said Hannah Grove, executive vice president and chairperson of State Street’s global inclusion initiative. "Achieving a perfect score for the third consecutive year is a testament to State Street’s commitment to promoting a positive work environment for our employees.”
State Street’s Global Inclusion initiative is committed to creating an environment that promotes and supports the inclusion of people, ideas and new ways of working; fully utilizing employees’ talents and expertise; and building a global employee population that is representative of the local communities in which State Street operates. The Global Inclusion initiative supports twenty employee networks, including State Street PRIDE, which provides personal and professional development opportunities for State Street’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. State Street PRIDE also focuses on issues of recruitment and retention and acts as one of the key drivers for change across the organization.
"The 2009 Corporate Equality Index shows that corporate America understands that a diverse workforce is critical to remaining successful and competitive,” said HRC Foundation President Joe Solmonese. "In the absence of a federal law that prohibits workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression, it is up to employers to take the lead and implement policies that ensure all their employees are protected.”
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2009 Corporate Equality Index reported a record 259 businesses achieved a perfect score, a one-third increase from 195 last year. The full report can be downloaded from HRC’s website at www.hrc.org/cei.
The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality.
