State Street Earns Top Ratings in Corporate Equality Index
State Street Corporation, the world’s leading
provider of financial services to institutional investors, today
announced that it has received the top rating of 100 percent in the
Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s annual
Corporate Equality Index for the second consecutive year. The Corporate
Equality Index rates employers on a scale from 0 to 100 percent on their
treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) employees,
consumers and investors.
"More businesses than ever before have
recognized the value of a diverse and dedicated workforce,”
said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Salmonese. "More
importantly, these employers understand that discrimination against GLBT
workers will ultimately hurt their ability to compete in a global
marketplace.”
State Street’s Global Inclusion initiative is
committed to creating an environment that promotes and supports the
inclusion of people, ideas and new ways of working; fully utilizing
employees’ talents and expertise; and building
a global employee population that is representative of the local
communities in which State Street operates.
"Inclusion is a strategic imperative at State
Street and is one of the key characteristics of being a global company,”
said Hannah Grove, senior vice president and chairperson of State Street’s
Global Inclusion initiatives. "We are
delighted by this national recognition from the Human Rights Foundation
for the second straight year.”
More than 20 employee networks worldwide help to advance the mission of
State Street’s Global Inclusion initiatives
including State Street PRIDE, which provides networking and development
opportunities for employees from State Street’s
gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. State Street PRIDE
also focuses on issues of recruitment and retention and acts as one of
the key drivers for change across the organization.
This year an unprecedented 195 major US businesses earned the top rating
of 100 percent in the Corporate Equality Index, a 41 percent increase
from 2006. The 195 businesses that met all of the criteria employ more
than 8.3 million workers. Among the key findings of this year’s
report, the banking and financial services industry ranked higher than
any other industry, with a total of 32 companies. The full report can be
downloaded from HRC’s website at www.hrc.org/cei.
The Human Rights Campaign is America’s
largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian,
bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all
Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against GLBT citizens and
realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
