Sony, Lenovo In Talks For Merging PC Business: Reports
(RTTNews) - According to Japanese broadcaster NHK, Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony Corp. (SNE, SON.L) and Chinese PC maker Lenovo Group are in discussions regarding a possible joint venture to take over Sony's loss-making Vaio PC overseas business. While Sony called the report inaccurate, it acknowleged that it was mulling at several possibilities for the division.
"Sony continues to address various options for the PC business, but the press report on a possible PC business alliance between Sony and Lenovo is inaccurate," the company said in a statement.
The Japanese electronics and media giant intends to revise its product and manufacturing strategy for the Vaio unit as it faces a slump in its PC business, hurt by the popularity of smartphones and tablets.
