Sony Executive Leaves After E-mail Reportedly Sought His Firing
(RTTNews) - Sony Pictures' head of corporate communications Charles Sipkins found himself out of the job after the Hollywood Reporter last month published a roundtable interview with the chiefs of all major film studios except Sony Pictures Entertainment, according to a Bloomberg report.
Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, was not invited for the interview, which did not go down well with her husband Bernie Weinraub, a former reporter with the New York Times.
Weinraub wrote in a November 15 e-mail which Bloomberg obtained, "I would fire your P.R. guy immediately. Or at least tell him you're not going to deal with him anymore."
Pascal forwarded the note to George Rose, Sony's head of human resources, who believed Weinraub was right. Six days later the firm said Sipkins was leaving to pursue other opportunities.
Meanwhile, Pascal has said that the e-mail was not the reason for the departure of Sipkins, who made a base salary of $600,000 annually.
