Netflix Adds Record 5.59 Mln Members In Q4; Expects 6.10 Mln Net Additions In Q1

(RTTNews) - Netflix, Inc. (NFLX) announced that, in the fourth quarter, the company added a record 5.59 million members as its big shows such as Narcos and Marvel's Jessica Jones helped to grow membership to 74.76 million. The fourth-quarter additions compare to a forecast of 5.15 million and to prior year net additions of 4.33 million. For first quarter, the company is forecasting 6.10 million net additions compared to 4.88 million, prior year.

The quarter-end 74.76 million members put the company at over 17 million net additions for the year. On January 1, the company crossed 75 million members.

On earnings, Netflix said it stayed profitable in fourth-quarter despite foreign exchange headwinds, and delivered operating income of $60 million and net income of $43 million. Netflix expects similar modest operating income results for first quarter, assuming current foreign exchange, as the company invests in its international expansion.

"Our expectations are modest and long-term. We may be able to get started this year and thus deliver on "whole world by end of 2016" or it may take longer," the company stated.
