Neste Oil among the most interesting bioenergy companies - expands into biopropane production

Biofuels Digest, online news publication covering the bioenergy field, has ranked Neste Oil 23rd on its list of the hottest bioenergy companies. Neste Oil is the only Finnish company to be included in the list.

Innovations and achievements in developing bioenergy production were emphasized in the criteria for the ranking. The annual ranking is based on votes from an international panel and readers of Biofuels Digest. The votes of both groups carry a weight of 50%. All in all, more than 100,000 votes were received this year.

"We are continuously seeking new ways to utilize our solutions based on renewable raw materials in non-traffic applications as well. We are expanding into a new area by investing in biopropane production at our renewable diesel refinery in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. In addition, we have been investigating utilizing our renewable NEXBTL product family in solvents and other chemical industry applications," says Kaisa Hietala, Executive Vice President, Renewable Products, Neste Oil.

Neste Oil is the world's leading producer of renewable diesel, and the company has invested a total of EUR 1.5 billion in renewable energy since 2007. Neste Oil's cleantech business generated net sales of EUR 2.5 billion in 2013.
