Microsoft Xbox One Sales Double In June After Launch Of $399 Kinect-less Option
(RTTNews) - Software giant Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) revealed on its official blog that Xbox one console sales more than doubled in the month of June in the U.S. from May sales due to the lower price tag of a new offering without their Kinect technology. The company also reported solid growth in Xbox 360 sales.
Microsoft noted that this is based on the internal data based on sold through numbers during the retail calendar.
"Over the past month, we've seen a strong spike in interest in our Xbox One console options, including the new $399 offering, and the amazing lineup of games announced during E3. Since the new Xbox One offering launched on June 9th, we've seen sales of Xbox One more than double in the US, compared to sales in May, and solid growth in Xbox 360 sales," Microsoft wrote in the official blog post.
The sales have spiked over the past month since the launch of the cheaper new Xbox One console, without Kinect sensor camera, at a price tag of $399 on June 9. However, the company said it will provide an option to buy the standalone Kinect sensor separately 'this fall' from select retailers.
The new offering is $100 less than the Xbox One with the Kinect sensor bundle and the same price as Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 4. Without the Kinect sensor, users would not be able to use their voice to control the device, or play games with motion. However, forgoing the Kinect sensor has also boosted the graphic performance by nearly 10 percent.
Microsoft also promised game lovers a line up of incredible deals and special promotions to celebrate holidays.
Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft, the world's largest software maker, is now up for it to increase sales of the console amid the ongoing war against the PS4. The Xbox One has lagged the PS4 in sales by an increasing margin in the past seven months since its launch on November 22 at the higher price tag.
The new-generation games and entertainment system from the company brings the best games, live TV, Skype, sports, fitness, music and more to one single device at the center of the living room.
The Xbox one offers a wide selection of new games in 2014 such as Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Sunset Overdrive, Forza Horizon 2, and Ori and the Blind Forest.
Apart from these, it also has a line up of creative independent titles and blockbusters such as Assassin's Creed Unity, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Destiny, Evolve, Grand Theft Auto V, and dozens more.
Starting in August with the release of Madden NFL 15, Microsoft said new blockbuster hits will launch for Xbox One at an incredible pace throughout the fall, as we head into the holiday season.
MSFT closed Wednesday's regular trading session at $44.08, up $1.63 or 3.84% on a volume of 63.32 million shares.
