Previously, he worked for the St. Petersburg Times as state capital correspondent, Washington correspondent and political editor. Mr. Harwood, 51, was born in Louisville, Ky. and grew up in the Maryland suburbs outside of the nation’s capital. He graduated magna cum laude from Duke University in 1978.
