Business Editors/Sports Editors/Technology Editors
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 4, 2005--Today Silicon Laboratories (NASDAQ:SLAB), an Austin-based high-tech company, challenged other local corporations to make a New Year's resolution and compete in the Silicon Laboratories Relay this July 4th to benefit Junior Achievement.
"This team-oriented race event is an ideal forum for the corporate community to encourage wellness and team building while supporting a great cause," said Dan Artusi, president and CEO of Silicon Laboratories. "Junior Achievement's educational programs for our young people benefit all of Austin's businesses, and this event is a great way to show support of those efforts."
Today marks 180 days until the Silicon Laboratories Relay and the perfect time to make a resolution to race in July! The relay is being hosted in partnership with RunTex and the Carrozza Foundation, the leaders in race event planning. The relay course, divided into two 5Ks, two 10Ks and one 12K, is ideal for beginner, intermediate and advanced runners. Commencing at Austin High School and tracing around the famous and beautiful views of Scenic Blvd., runners will enjoy Austin's most beloved trek.
"The Silicon Laboratories Relay is about engaging more people and corporations to stay healthy and active by committing to an achievable goal," said Paul Carrozza, founder and president of RunTex. "Participating in the 5K, 10K or 12K race improves an individual's health and at the same time assists a program that educates our youth and future workforce."
Last year, Austin was ranked the thirteenth fittest city by Men's Health Magazine. Mayor Will Wynn is supporting the Silicon Laboratories Relay not only by running, but also by making the race part of his initiative to improve the physical fitness and quality of life of Austin residents, "Austin in Motion."
"I will be running with my team in the Silicon Laboratories Relay, and would like to challenge the Austin workforce to participate for the health of the city," states Mayor Will Wynn. "I know together we can make Austin the number one fit city in the nation."
The entry fee for a team of five is $125. As part of the corporate challenge, companies can also enter an elite team to compete with other corporate teams for the presidential cup. The presidential cup entry is $1000 per team with proceeds to benefit Junior Achievement. Those companies able to sign up six or more teams can begin training with RunTex, the authority in Austin running. RunTex will provide a training program and a kick-off session to get the teams started. To register or to find out additional details about this event, please visit http://www.marathonrelay.com/.
