GM Names Quattrone Senior VP, Global HR - Update
(RTTNews) - General Motors (GM) Monday named John Quattrone senior vice president, Global Human Resources, in place of Melissa Howell who is leaving the automaker to pursue other interests.
Quattrone currently serves as executive director of Human Resources for Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain organizations.
Quattrone began his GM career in 1975 at the Fisher Body Syracuse Plant. Since then, he has held various positions in human resources and labor relations at GM.
"John brings to the job a deep and rich breadth of experience across all levels of the enterprise," said GM CEO Mary Barra.
Quattrone serves on the board of directors of American Society of Employers and previously served on the board of directors of Health Grades.
Howell joined GM in 1990 and was named senior vice president, Global Human Resources in February 2013.
GM also said that Selim Bingol, senior vice president, Global Communications and Public Policy, is leaving the company to pursue other interests. Bingol was senior vice president for Corporate Communications at AT&T before joining GM in 2010 as SVP, Global Communications.
During his tenure, Bingol guided the communications around GM's 2010 initial public offering as well as the introduction of new products.
The executive changes come as GM expanded its global recall of vehicles with defective ignition switches to 2.6 million. The automaker expects to take a charge of $1.3 billion in the first quarter, mainly for the cost of recall-related repairs announced by the company in the 2014 calendar year-to-date period and for providing courtesy vehicles for customers impacted by the recall.
