American Airlines May Traffic, Capacity Increase; But Load Factor Down

(RTTNews) - American Airlines Group (AAL) reported that its traffic in May 2014 increased 2.1% from May 2013, on a capacity increase of 2.4%.

Total traffic, measured in revenue passenger miles or RPMs, increased 2.1% to 19.20 billion from 18.82 billion RPMs in the same month last year.

Total capacity, measured in available seat miles or ASMs, rose 2.4% to 22.87 billion from last year's 22.33 billion ASMs.

But, total load factor for the month was 84.0%, down 0.3 points from 84.3% reported last year.

Based on two months of actual data and one month of forecast, the company expects its second quarter 2014 consolidated passenger revenue per available seat mile (PRASM) to be up approximately 5 percent to 7 percent versus the same period last year.
