Amazon Won't Sell Knock-Off USB Cords

(RTTNews) - Online retail giant Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN), has banned the sale of USB-C cables that do not comply with the standard specifications, as they can fry up laptops, smartphones, and tablets causing safety risks.

Amazon has added non-compliant USB-C cables to its list of items banned for sale on its website. The new note added to Amazon's page reads as follows: Any USB-C™ (or USB Type-C™) cable or adapter product that is not compliant with standard specifications issued by "USB Implementers Forum Inc."

The new USB Type-C is a specification for a 24-pin reversible-plug connector for USB devices and USB cabling.

If a faulty USB-C cord is used to charge your smartphone or laptop, it could drain far more power and fry it.

Several users have complained about certain USB-C cables damaging electronic devices and frying the hardware inside.
