Amazon Stays Quiet On Plans For Free Video Streaming Service

(RTTNews) - Amazon is keeping a tight lid on plans for their new ad-supported streaming video service. The company has previously denied any plans for a free version of the Prime Instant Video collection, but has now eased its position, stating that they merely have no new information on the project.

Reps for Amazon released on official statement noting that they do already use some advertising to offer free previews of some shows and movie trailers. They would not, however, go so far as to confirm a free ad-based model of their popular streaming service:

"We're often experimenting with new offers and experiences for customers, but we have not announced any plans to offer an ad-supported video-streaming service," the statement reads.

The move could help Amazon take a bite out of rival Netflix's massive viewership, which accounts for roughly 34.89 percent of all web traffic during the busiest parts of the day, according to techtimes.com.
