ÅF wins new contract in Stockholm Bypass

In a public procurement, ÅF has won the contract to lead the construction management organisation for the rock tunnels in the northern parts of the E4 Stockholm Bypass called Johannelund, Lunda and Akalla.

The contract is estimated to be worth SEK 63 Millions.

The E4 Stockholm Bypass is one of Sweden's largest ever infrastructure projects. When complete, in about 10 years' time, the bypass will link the northern and southern parts of Stockholm County and create opportunities for continued development in a vigorously growing region. The motorway project comprises a road of about 21 kilometres, some 18 of which in rock tunnels.

The work on the bypass is now entering a new phase and the actual construction has started. ÅF has received the continued confidence of the Swedish Transport Administration and will provide various services including project management, construction management and cost and time management in the rock tunnel work in the northern parts of the Stockholm Bypass throughout the entire construction period. ÅF and global technical consulting company URS have been planning the Akalla and Häggvik traffic interchanges and the rock tunnels together since 2010. The project is unique because the entire assignment is being planned using 3D BIM models. More than 500 consultants from seven countries have worked on the project so far.

The Swedish Transport Administration's decision will come into force on 29 August 2014.
