YOW's James Armstrong named Security Director of the Year by Canadian Security Magazine

OTTAWA, Oct. 5, 2017 /CNW/ - The Ottawa International Airport Authority is pleased to announce that James Armstrong, the Authority's Vice-President, Security, Emergency Management & Customer Transportation, was named Security Director of the Year by Canadian Security Magazine.

The awards program, whose candidates are senior security professionals across such disciplines as health care, education, retail and transportation, has been running for more than 10 years, and is judged by a panel comprised of the magazine's advisory board.

Candidates are nominated by peers, colleagues and coworkers based on the qualities that make them successful in their respective fields, such as leadership, business acumen, project management, problem solving and ingenuity, continuous training and skills improvement, and contributing to industry through volunteerism/mentoring within the organization and community, to name a few. With the criteria in mind, James' nomination was a collective effort from Airport Authority leadership, his own team and an airport campus security partner.

"In his relatively short time with the Airport Authority, James has brought his vast military experience to the airport's security program and made a marked difference in physical security through the introduction of new deterrence activities, increased intelligence levels and improved interagency coordination and cooperation," said Mark Laroche, Airport Authority President and CEO. "Many elements that were introduced under James' leadership are now becoming the standard in airport security. The distinction of being chosen among peers as the Security Director of the Year is well deserved."
