Woodford Reserve(R) Teams up with Belmont Stakes(R) for ''Big Brown Chases the Triple Crown(R)'' Cocktail
During the 140th running of the Belmont Stakes®
this Saturday, race fans can toast Big Brown’s
quest for the Triple Crown® with an exclusive
cocktail and limited edition collectible glass available only at Belmont
Park® in Elmont, New York. For every Woodford
Reserve® "Big
Brown Chases the Triple Crown” cocktail sold
in this unique glass, Woodford Reserve will donate $3 to Belmont
Park-based charities Anna House and Backstretch Employee Service Team
(B.E.S.T.), which assist racetrack workers and their families.
Woodford Reserve makes its inaugural trip to the starting gate at
Belmont Park as the first-ever "Official
Bourbon of the Belmont Stakes.” The
award-winning small batch bourbon, also the "Official
Bourbon of the Kentucky Derby®,”
is made in Woodford County, Ky., which is where Big Brown will retire.
5,000 of the cocktails and collectible glasses will be available
exclusively at Belmont Park this Saturday, June 7, at select bar
locations throughout the track. Each drink will be sold for $15 with $3
per drink going to the two charities. Also ideal for refreshing at-home
entertaining, the ingredients include:
1.5 oz. Woodford Reserve bourbon
3 oz. Sweet and Sour Mix
1/4 oz. Chambord
Lemon wedge for garnish
Add the ingredients to a tall glass with ice and shake vigorously.
Strain into a tall glass filled with ice cubes and garnish with a lemon
wedge.
Big Brown’s owners IEAH Stables and Woodford
Reserve have partnered with two Belmont Park organizations to benefit
from the donation based on sales of Big Brown Chases the Triple Crown.
Backstretch Employee Service Team (B.E.S.T.) is housed in the
backstretch at Belmont Park and provides a full range of health and
human services to support workers in the barn areas of the racetracks at
Belmont Park, Aqueduct and Saratoga. Also located at Belmont Park, Anna
House is the first and only full-time child care facility based on-site
at a U.S. racetrack.
"We are proud to partner with Big Brown’s
owners to help improve the lives of folks who make the thoroughbred
industry operate,” said Wayne Rose, brand
director for Woodford Reserve. "This is a
special time for the racing industry and not only are we delighted to
honor Big Brown, but we also look forward to making a contribution to
these two important organizations.”
In addition to its status as the first-ever "Official
Bourbon of the Belmont Stakes,” Woodford
Reserve will also sponsor the 107th running of
the Manhattan Handicap, the race immediately preceding the running of
the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 7. The Woodford Reserve Manhattan
Handicap is a Grade I turf race for three-year-olds and up with a purse
of $400,000.
Hal Handel, NYRA Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer,
said, "Woodford Reserve is a premium brand
with strong commitment to the thoroughbred industry. This partnership is
a perfect fit. We are very pleased to be able to offer our patrons
access to Woodford Reserve’s first-class
bourbon.” Backstretch Employee Service Team (B.E.S.T.)
The Backstretch Employee Service Team (B.E.S.T.) is the organization
that delivers a full range of health and human services on-site to
workers in the barn areas of the racetracks at Belmont Park, Aqueduct
and Saratoga. Drawing upon strong connections to resources in the racing
industry and extended communities, B.E.S.T.’s
bilingual staff develops and administers comprehensive health and human
service programs that help backstretch workers lead healthy and full
lives.
