WhatsApp Now Has 800 Mln Active Users
(RTTNews) - Facebook Inc. (FB)-owned messenger application WhatsApp now has 800 million monthly active users, according to WhatsApp founder Jan Koum.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Kuom said, "WhatsApp - now serving 800,000,000 monthly active users. Reminder for the press out there: active and registered users are not the same thing." Kuom ended the post with a smiling emoticon.
WhatsApp reached the half-billion mark in April 2014, propelled by fast adoption in countries such Brazil, India and Mexico, and hit the 600 million-mark four months later, in August 2014.
Facebook acquired WhatsApp for $19 billion in February 2014, making it the company's largest acquisition. Faccebook completed the acquisition of WhatsApp in June 2014.
Facebook's Messenger App, an app independent of the social network's mobile version, reached 500 million users in November 2014.
