What Would A Million Dollar Mother's Day Look Like? Western Union Conducts Survey to Find out What Consumers Would Buy Mom If They Won a Million Dollars

From the U.S. to Uruguay and Chile to China, mothers incountries and territories around the world will be honored by theirloved ones this Mother's Day. But phone calls and flower arrangementsaren't the only things people send. Monetary gifts will cross thewires as Western Union, a global leader in money transfer, helpspeople all over the world send money home to Mom in honor of herspecial day.

In light of the upcoming special occasion and the Western Union(R)Million Dollar Giveaway, the company commissioned a survey asking1,000 adults age 18 or over what they'd do for Mom if they won $1million. The most popular gift? A vacation, with nearly three in tenadults (29 percent) saying they'd treat Mom to a trip with theirnew-found wealth. Hispanic respondents were even more likely to wantto purchase a trip for their mother, with 38 percent giving this sameresponse. In addition, 12 percent of all adults surveyed respondedthat they'd give Mom cold, hard cash and let her spend it however shewants. It's with this spirit of giving that Mother's Day remains oneof Western Union's busiest transaction days.

The survey also showed that, if they won $1 million, people tendto want to give Mom things that they likely want for themselves attheir specific stage in their own lives. Those 18-24 years old andeager to get their own set of wheels are most likely to buy Mom a car.And 25-44 year olds starting their lives and families would get her anew house. Those 45-64 years old would send Mom flowers if they won$1 million, and respondents over the age of 65 think time is the bestgift -- opting to visit Mom on her special day.

Other things people said they'd do for Mom if they won $1 millioninclude paying off her bills or her mortgage, treating her to ashopping spree, decking her out in jewels or treating her to a spatrip. The survey also reveals that males are more likely than femalesto say they would take their mother out for a meal (9 percent vs. 3percent).

And not only would Moms reap the benefits of their children's $1million winnings, they'd also be among the first to hear about it,with 18 percent of the respondents -- especially adults age 18-34 --saying they'd call their mother before notifying anyone else.
