Vessel Betting You Will Pay To Watch Streaming Videos
(RTTNews) - Online video platform Vessel has launched a paid subscription service on Tuesday that will enable subscribers to access videos 72 hours earlier than on Google Inc.'s (GOOG, GOOGL) YouTube or other websites.
Vessel said it will provide early access to the web's best short-form videos through a low-priced subscription service. Vessel was founded by Jason Kilar and Richard Tom, the former CEO and chief technology officer of Hulu respectively.
The service will charge a fee of $2.99 per month, enabling members to watch creators' videos and shows before they are available on YouTube elsewhere for free. The company has signed up several YouTube stars, including Ingrid Nilsen, Shane Dawson and Rhett & Link, for their video content.
These video creators, numbering more than 130, will offer their new videos exclusively on Vessel for a limited time, typically 72 hours. After the limited period, these videos will be available for free on Vessel and other websites that creators want to make them available.
Vessel has video clips separated into different categories such as music, food and travel, beauty, science, gaming, sports, comedy and pop culture.
The new video service is free for one year for viewers who signs up for Vessel within the next 72 hours. They can download the Vessel app from the Apple App Store, or visit www.vessel.com.
About three months ago, Vessel invited video creators to its platform. The company began beta-testing the service with a limited audience of consumers two months ago.
