Unum Q2 Profit Tops View - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Unum Group (UNM) Wednesday reported second-quarter net income of $218.6 million, or $0.82 per share, compared to $216.4 million, or $0.76 per share in the same period last year.

After-tax operating income for the quarter was $218.5 million, or $0.82 per share, from $225.3 million or $0.79 per share in the year-ago period. On average, 16 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.80 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Total revenue for the latest second quarter declined to $2.60 billion from $2.62 billion last year, eight analysts expected revenues of $2.61 billion.

Looking ahead, the company expects growth in after-tax operating earnings per share to be in the range of zero percent to six percent, including the effect of expected share repurchases.
