UMB Bank Colorado Hires New Asset Management President
UMB Bank Colorado, n.a. is pleased to announce the expansion of its
Asset Management team in the Colorado market. Maureen K. Barker
has joined the company as president of UMB Asset Management –
West. Additionally, John Trujillo II has joined the company as
vice president and senior portfolio manager and Norm Close has
joined as vice president and trust advisor. Both Trujillo and Close are
Denver natives and report to Barker.
As the first UMB Asset Management executive in Colorado, Barker is
responsible for growing and developing the UMB Asset Management market
in Colorado and Phoenix. Barker will manage a team of Asset Management
officers in both markets, serving as president of the divisions and as
sales director.

with her familiarity and success in serving the high-net-worth client in
Denver,” said Jon Robinson, president of UMB
Bank Colorado. "Her industry background and
leadership will be instrumental in both serving and growing our client
base in these regions.”
Barker comes to UMB with almost 30 years of experience in the financial
services industry. She recently served as senior vice president at Wells
Fargo in Denver. There she managed a team of bankers in the Business
Banking - Professional Services Group. Her responsibilities included
supervising the team’s portfolio, recruitment
and team development, in addition to serving as chair of the Wells Fargo
Art Contribution Committee.
A Denver native, Barker is actively involved in the community and
dedicates her time to many charitable organizations. A past president of
the Rotary Club of Lower Downtown Denver, she currently serves as the
club’s president and as the District’s
Community Service Chair. Barker is also a member of the Board and the
assistant treasurer of The Hundred Club of Denver, which provides
financial assistance to surviving families and dependents of first
responders who lose their lives in the line of duty. Barker’s
other community service activities include serving as past trustee of
the Denver Academy and past board director of the Denver Dumb Friends
League.
Trujillo brings extensive experience in trust, endowment,
fiduciary, IRAs and foundations, which he will use to build customized
investment portfolios for UMB Asset Management clients. Trujillo will
also perform personalized investment reviews with each client and
generate new business for the market.
Trujillo comes to UMB from SunTrust Bank in Tampa, Fla. While there, he
managed up to $325 million in assets and was responsible for the asset
allocation of each account. Trujillo holds a Bachelor of Science degree
in finance from the University of Denver and an MBA from the University
of South Florida.
Close brings more than 33 years of experience in the Denver
market to UMB, with specialties in family wealth management and
inter-generational will and trust planning. As vice president and trust
advisor, Close will handle trust plan development, trust administration
and family business plan development.
Prior to joining UMB, Close served as vice president of Trust for the
Bank of Cherry Creek for seven years. There he supervised trust
development and administration, while specializing in charitable trusts.
Close is actively involved in the Denver community, serving as board
member and treasurer of the Colorado Planned Giving Roundtable. He has
also served as board member and is the current treasurer for the
American Lung Association of Colorado. Additionally, Close is one of the
founders of the Denver Family Business Roundtable, a study group of
family business advisors and consultants.
