Syntonic Completes Board of Directors Appointments and Selects Sprint and AT&T Veteran as Chairman
SEATTLE, July 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Syntonic, a mobile platform and services provider, today announced the appointment of former Sprint and AT&T senior executive, Steve Elfman, as the new Chairman of the Board amid accelerated customer growth, rapid product innovation and ongoing global expansion. Along with this cornerstone appointment, Syntonic has also rounded out its board of directors with the addition of a Sydney-based leader in emerging technologies, Nigel Hennessy, to drive Asia-Pacific capital market awareness and to support the company's regional expansion.
In the last two years, Syntonic has secured partnerships with major mobile network operators worldwide, including two of the world's three largest carriers. Along with the strong global position afforded by such partnerships, Syntonic has solidified its presence in four major geographies including the United States, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and India – providing sponsored access services to nearly one million users of the Freeway app, the company's flagship consumer product. The appointment of these two non-executive directors furthers Syntonic's larger corporate objective to close the gap between expensive data plans and affordable mobile access on a global scale.
"From a business philosophy and industry expertise perspective, both Steve and Nigel will provide invaluable guidance as Syntonic enters the next stage of corporate growth," said Gary Greenbaum, CEO and co-founder of Syntonic. "With Steve's strong sense of strategic leadership and Nigel's broad business and technical expertise, the two bring very different yet crucial energies and viewpoints to strengthen an already world-class board."
Mr. Elfman is assuming the role of Chairman of the Board following a planned succession of Ian Middelmas who stepped down effective June 30, 2017. With more than two decades of industry experience, Mr. Elfman brings unparalleled knowledge in wireless infrastructure and mobile applications to the Syntonic board. He currently serves as founder and executive managing partner at TAP Growth Group, after stints as President of Network Operations and Wholesale at Sprint and Senior Vice President and CIO of AT&T.
"Syntonic is uniquely poised to address many gaps in the wireless industry, including global issues in access to content," Mr. Elfman said. "I look forward to working alongside Gary, Nigel, and the rest of the board to guide Syntonic's next phase of growth and build the company's long-term strategy."
Mr. Hennessy's background in Asia-Pacific growth coupled with expertise in technology commercialization in the Australian market is ideally suited for Syntonic's go-forward strategy, given the company's global expansion goals and public listing on the Australian Security Exchange (ASX). He has held numerous executive and board director positions at large corporations and emerging technology companies – including BAE Systems plc, CCN/Cabcharge Ltd, Simoco Pacific Networks Pty Ltd, Adacel Technologies Ltd, AquaSpy, Inc. and EASAMS Ltd.
"In the wireless industry, it is rare to find an early stage company that has made such notable traction in just a few short years," Mr. Hennessy said. "With much of the essential technology and infrastructure already in place, I am eager to participate in Syntonic's future growth. Asia-Pacific in particular is on the cusp of a major explosion in mobile usage, and Syntonic will be at the forefront of that movement."
The appointments come during a marquee year for Syntonic, following expansion in the Latin America market and ahead of several product innovations to be released throughout 2017. To keep up with the latest, visit www.syntonic.com.
