State Historical Marker Dedication at the Former Scotland School for Veterans' Children in Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG, Pa., July 10, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A ceremony to dedicate an official state historical marker recognizing the historical significance of the Scotland School for Veterans' Children will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 in the school auditorium building, 3583 Scotland Road, Scotland, Franklin County.

Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, and the Scotland School for Veterans' Children Alumni Association, the ceremony is free and open to the public.

Remarks will be given by Maj. Gen. Wesley E. Craig, the state's adjutant general; Frederick Powell, commissioner of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission; Jim Lowe, president of the Scotland School Alumni Association and class of 1970; and David Newell, vice president of Winebrenner Theological Seminary and director of the Scotland Campus. Musical selections will be provided by the Pa. National Guard's 28th Division Band Combo.

Angelo Adams, class of 1996, will give the keynote address. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a degree in mechanical engineering, Adams was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army and he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He later earned his master's degree from the University of Michigan'sRoss School of Business and currently works for OTIS Elevator.

The Scotland School for Veterans' Children was established in 1895 and closed in 2009. The 183-acre property was sold to Winebrenner Theological Seminary in June 2013.
