Southwest Airlines February Traffic Up 1.2% - Quick Facts

(RTTNews) - Southwest Airlines Co. (LUV) reported that its traffic increased 1.2 percent to 7.1 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in February 2014, from February 2013. Capacity measured in Available seat miles (ASMs) decreased 1.7 percent to 9.1 billion from 9.3 billion ASMs. Load factor was 78.1 percent, compared to 75.8 percent in February 2013.

Passenger revenue per ASM (PRASM) is estimated to have increased approximately five percent compared to February 2013. The company noted that this increase includes one point of estimated PRASM benefit from February 2014's storms.

For the first two months of 2014, the company flew 14.6 billion RPMs, an increase of 1.7 percent, from same period prior year. Year-to-date Capacity decreased 2.2 percent to 18.9 billion ASMs. Load factor was 77.2 percent, compared to 74.2 percent for the same period in 2013.
