Sony Requests For Extension Of Q3 Filing Deadline, Due To Cyber Attack

(RTTNews) - Sony Corp. (SNE, SON.L) Friday filed an application with the Financial Services Agency of Japan for the extension of filing of its quarterly securities report for the third quarter, ending March 31. Sony was supposed to file report on February 16. The company pointed out the cyber attack on its picture business - Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. as a reason for the extension. However, Sony said it continues to evaluate the impact of the cyber attack and currently believes that such impact is not material on its financial results.

In its filing Sony said the the attack was a highly sophisticated and damaging and resulted in serious disruption of its network systems. Further, the company said destruction of network hardware and the compromise of a large amount of data and the Sony Pictures had to shut down its entire network.

Sony said most of financial and accounting applications and many other critical information technology applications will not be functional until early February 2015. Even with the anticipated restoration of these applications in February, Sony Pictures will not have sufficient time to close its financial statements in time for submission of the quarterly securities report in the middle of February 2015, the extension request said.
