Rohm and Haas Wins Euroclip Award at Eurocoat 2007, Genoa

Rohm and Haas (NYSE:ROH) has been awarded first prize in the Euroclip competition at the 2007 Eurocoat trade fair in Genoa from November 6-8, 2007. The Euroclip competition is a forum held at the Eurocoat event for raw ingredient suppliers to present their key innovations or technologies – an international jury selects a winner on the basis of 7 criteria including how innovative the content was perceived to be. In total, 44 companies took part in the competition this year. Rohm and Haas’ Coatings submission, presented by Dr. Andrew Trapani, Technical Leader of the Rohm and Haas Laboratories in Valbonne and entitled "Combining Innovation and Eco-Design: Rohm and Haas' Contributions to Better Coatings Solutions", was nominated the winner. The presentation highlighted Rohm and Haas' continuing advances in water-based polymer design, allowing paint formulators to create high performance products which work holistically to reduce the usage of VOC-contributing ingredients, reduce carbon emissions, and, at the same time, maximize the efficiency and utilization of the raw materials. The following examples were highlighted: Ropaque™ is an example of Rohm and Haas technology that has a measurable environmental impact - a typical reformulation with Ropaque™ technology opacifying polymer results in up to 8% lower emission of gaseous components; The Company’s latest pure acrylic binder technology, Avanse™, enables up to a 10% decrease in CO2 emissions in a typical water-borne interior wall paint formulation while also saving formulation costs; It’s joint research project with Ceres laboratories to manufacture acrylate monomers from switch grass (biomass).
