Rise Of The Tomb Raider PS4, PC Release Date Announced

(RTTNews) - Rise of the Tomb Raider, the latest title of the Tomb Raider action-adventure game series that would be exclusive to Microsoft's Xbox consoles, will be available on other platforms such as Windows 10, Steam and Sony's PlayStation 4 next year.

Square Enix, the publisher of the game said in a blog post, "...Rise of the Tomb Raider, will be available for Steam and Windows 10 PC in early 2016. The game will be a console exclusive to Xbox One and Xbox 360 for one year after its initial launch, coming to PlayStation 4 Holiday 2016."

Crystal Dynamics, a Square Enix studio, is leading development in the latest entry in the series for additional platforms. Rise of the Tomb Raider is the sequel to the 2013 video game Tomb Raider.

At Microsoft's Gamescom 2014 briefing, it was announced that the game will be released in late 2015 as a timed exclusive for Xbox platforms. Rise of the Tomb Raider will premiere on Xbox One and Xbox 360 first on November 10, 2015.

In the latest game, Lara Croft must explore the most treacherous and remote regions of Siberia to find the secret of immortality before a ruthless organization known as Trinity. She must use her wits and survival skills, form new alliances, and ultimately embrace her destiny as the Tomb Raider.

The Tomb Raider franchise has sold more than 42 million copies worldwide.

Two movies - Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life - have been produced, starring actress Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. The first-named film is still the highest-grossing film adaptation of a video game ever released in the U.S., and third worldwide. The two movies together grossed nearly $500 million worldwide.
