Rexam Wraps Up Savings with Ariba

In a time when every penny counts more than ever, Rexam plc, the global consumer packaging company, wanted to improve visibility into its spend and identify opportunities for savings that it could quickly drive to the bottom line. With the aim of consolidating more than 20 different systems housing data across its global operations, it has tapped into Ariba, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARBA), the leading spend management solutions provider, and is using Ariba® Spend Visibility to achieve its goals.

"In the face of rising commodity prices and increasing global competition, we are taking aggressive measures to control our costs and enhance the efficiency of our operations,” said James Mortimer, Group Supply Chain Manager, Rexam. "With Ariba Spend Visibility, we have access to technology and best practice processes that we can use to standardize information and management reporting at the executive and business unit level, as well as to increase savings performance with some quick wins.”

Delivered on-demand, Ariba Spend Visibility provides decision makers with rapid access to meaningful intelligence regarding spend, supplier performance and procurement processes. By combining an industry-leading knowledge classification base with advanced technologies and an integrated database of over 150 million suppliers, Ariba Spend Visibility enables rich and accurate classification and enrichment of spend and allows companies across all categories, systems and divisions.

To date, Rexam has enriched and classified more than 96 percent of its nearly £3 billion in annual spending and identified very substantial savings using Ariba Spend Visibility.

"We are now leveraging the solution to collaborate better and to identify additional opportunities for 2010, and expect to realize even more savings going forward,” Mortimer said.

Rexam joins more than 170 companies that currently use Ariba’s visibility solutions to manage their spend, including: AstraZeneca, H&R Block, Inc., National Grid, Nestlé USA, Inc., PPG Industries, Inc., The Stanley Works, Tyco International, and many others.

"Global economic conditions are certainly improving, but companies must maintain a laser focus on controlling costs,” said Alex Saric, Director, Ariba Visibility Solutions. "With Ariba Spend Visibility in place, Rexam has a clearer view into its spend and access to information and tools to effectively manage it.”
