Report: Facebook To Encrypt Whatsapp

(RTTNews) - Facebook along with internet giants Google and Snapchat are reportedly working to strengthen its encryption as Apple fights the US government over privacy.

In past few weeks, the US Government has been fighting with Apple to make them decrypt an iPhone that belonged to one of the San Bernardino terrorists. Apple refused to help the FBI and said it is not possible to crack the encryption. Apple had received support from other silicon valley companies.

Last week, Facebook's Latin America director was arrested and jailed for 24 hours after the company failed to provide encrypted data for a criminal investigation.

Facebook plans to improve the security features of its messaging service WhatsApp so that voice calls are also encrypted.

Reports suggest that Snapchat is also working on a secure messaging system.
