Renesas Technology and Arcturus Networks Unveil Versatile, Market-Read
Renesas Technology and Arcturus Networks Unveil Versatile, Market-Ready Consumer VoIP Family Two Reference Platforms Help Manufacturers Build a Range of Highly Manageable VoIP End-Point Devices
Renesas Technology Corp., and Arcturus Networks Inc. today announced the availability of two turn-key reference platforms for voice-over-IP (VoIP) systems. The platforms are designed to help consumer VoIP product manufacturers bring end-point devices to market quickly and enable service providers to offer better billing options and new services to consumers cost effectively. The jointly developed solutions are based on the industry-leading Renesas Technology family of SuperH(R) microprocessors and enabled by a complete session initiation protocol (SIP) based VoIP telephony middleware stack provided by Arcturus.
"The platforms give manufacturers an edge by helping them deliver feature rich CPE VoIP products capable of seamlessly integrating into service provider networks." said Rich Larsen COO Arcturus Networks. "Our partnerships with softswitch vendors and service providers, coupled with our telephony software means that ODMs and OEMs can quickly deliver devices that are already Service Provider compatible."
"The combination of our unique SH7710 microprocessor and Arcturus middleware stack cost effectively brings the right mix of system capabilities required by the manufacturers of today's consumer VoIP products," said Brian Davis, director, advanced solutions group, Renesas Technology America, Inc. "Together, we're offering a solution capable of supporting multiple simultaneous voice channels and high-quality voice codecs with high throughput routing performance. It also allows communication processing in a highly secure environment including support for 3DES (triple data encryption standard) and VPN."
"Consumer VoIP is set to take off," said Keith Nissen, Sr. Analyst at In-Stat. "We are forecasting the IP Telephony market will grow in 2005 by over 40% worldwide and approximately 150% in the U.S. For consumer VoIP equipment manufacturers, reduced product development costs and time to market are the keys to success. The Renesas/Arcturus VoIP development platform meets both of these vital objectives."
The standards based software for both platforms is built around a Linux(R) operating system (OS) to ensure robust networking, product extensibility and access to the OS. To help manufacturers develop VoIP more easily, Arcturus provides value-add firmware that can be customized to meet the requirements of any service provider or manufacturer and allows better management capabilities. The firmware allows granular access to virtually every control point in a device through a variety of interfaces such as Web, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), Interactive Voice Response (IVR) or a configuration file upload.
In addition to the management capabilities, Arcturus provides a complete and robust SIP signaling and RTP stack with all necessary telephony applications to develop a VoIP product including call progress tones, calling features and quality of service (QoS).
Manufacturers can choose from two hardware platforms; a gateway or a compact adapter model. Both platforms are design to develop end-point products ranging from portable Road Warrior adapters and IP handsets to CPE equipment and Residential Gateways.
About the Products
SH7710 VoIP Router / Gateway
The SH7710 VoIP Router / Gateway features four auto-sensing 10/100BaseT LAN Ethernet ports and a single auto-sensing 10/100BaseT WAN port. It also supports Dual FXS voice channels terminating into standard RJ11 connectors, in addition, a third PSTN FXO fail-over port is provided for call routing or migration from existing legacy lines.
SH7710 SiP Adapter / Personal Gateway
The SH7710 adapter product uses an advanced System in Package (SiP) version of the SH7710. The SiP package combines the SH7710 processor with 4MB Flash and 8MB SDRAM in a single chip solution. The SiP version helps reduce PCB footprint, EMF interference and procurement hassles. The adapter supports dual auto-sensing 10/100BaseT Ethernet LAN/WAN ports and dual FXS voice channels.
