The Railway Coverage System will be on display during the mobile industry’s premier conference and expo, 3GSM World Congress. Leveraging Powerwave’s advanced multi-band, multi-operator repeater technology, used by Powerwave’s Coverage Systems Innovations team in the deployment of cost-effective, seamless wireless coverage systems for airports, railway stations, tunnels, convention centers, canyons and other environments around the globe where structures or natural obstructions interfere with signals, this next-generation Railway Coverage System is designed specifically for use on board trains, where poor radio coverage prevents passengers from accessing commercial voice and data services. The Railway Coverage System is an indoor repeater system designed to maximize the quality and availability of wireless voice and data services by capturing external wireless signals, preserving the signal integrity and then regenerating them inside the train. This GPS functionality enables the repeater to automatically be re-configured to support the frequency plans of the operators in each region, as the train moves between different geographical regions. Offering a scalable, modular, rack-mounted design, Powerwave’s Railway Coverage System can support single- and multi-band operation for one or more wireless operators using 900MHz (RGSM/EGSM/GSM), 1800MHz GSM and 2100MHz (UMTS).
