Office Depot and Xerox Present $25,000 Grant to National Ovarian Cance
Office Depot and Xerox Present $25,000 Grant to National Ovarian Cancer Coalition Gift is Presented at Success Strategies for Businesswomen Conference's Closing Luncheon
Office Depot, Inc. (NYSE:ODP), one of the world's leading resellers of office products, in collaboration with Xerox Corporation (NYSE:XRX) today presented a $25,000 grant to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. The donation, which was presented during the closing "Inspirational Luncheon" of Office Depot's Success Strategies for Businesswomen Conference, will support a new public awareness campaign for the Coalition. The conference, in its fifth year, took place this week at the Boca Resort & Club in Boca Raton, Florida.
The $25,000 grant will ensure that the National Ovarian Coalition's efforts to provide cancer awareness continue with funding for next year's campaign.
This year, the Coalition brought ovarian cancer awareness to the public with a 36-page information booklet, made possible by Office Depot and AT&T's joint donation last year.
The publication, titled "Ovarian Cancer: Quality of Life Issues," offers timely and practical information to women coping with the treatment and post-treatment of ovarian cancer. It was handed out to the more than 1,000 women in attendance at the lunch and will continue to be distributed to women and families through the Coalition's national network.
"Quality of life issues are extremely important for women faced with ovarian cancer and we believe this informational booklet will be a valuable resource for them," noted Julene Fabrizio, President of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition and ovarian cancer survivor.
"We are grateful to Office Depot and Xerox Corporation for their support in assisting us with our important mission of educating women and families about ovarian cancer, the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women," said Fabrizio.
The Coalition strives to raise awareness about ovarian cancer and promotes education about the disease. Simply, their mission is to improve the overall survival rate and quality of life for women coping with the disease.
James Mueller, Chief Executive Officer representing the Coalition, accepted the donation from Mary Wong, Office Depot's Director of Community Relations and Nell Grant, Global Account General Manager, Xerox Corporation.
"Office Depot seeks to enhance quality of life in the communities in which we operate and to serve humanity by supporting organizations that make a profound difference," noted Wong. "The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition is committed to doing just that, but most importantly -- saving the lives of women," said Wong.
The booklet will be dedicated in memory of Alana Long Croft, who recently passed away from ovarian cancer. Croft was the sister-in-law of Grant.
"Sadly, my life has been touched by ovarian cancer through the loss of my sister-in-law, Alana, an amazing woman, so I know first-hand how devastating this disease can be," said Grant. "One of the best ways we can all help save lives is by joining the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition in educating our friends, co-workers and families about ovarian cancer."
